Global Support

I have come to a realization… I want the frequent flier miles I would have gotten if I had to fly to each of the sites I am expected to support. Today its network problems in Belgium.

Network problems? Yeah… you see the problem with being part of the team in charge of the global standard desktop is that everything manifests itself as a problem with the desktop.

Think about it – if all you know is the screen in front of you and you cant open your mail, who do you complain to? The folks responsible for the screen in front of you. Never mind that we have little to nothing to do with the mail servers.

But, I digress. I figure that if I had the frequent flier miles for the support I have done for places such as Iceland, Spain, India, Phillipiones, etc I could tarvel someplace nice for free.

But no, instead i have to deal with late nite phone calls, instant messenger and email. And a lot of squeezing my eyebrows and thinking ‘what the…’ and ‘do they mean…?’

But the idea of spending a week in Reykjavik or Cainta seems really kewl – except that Id be working 10 hour days and never get to see anything.

I hate the evening news. Last night the local news showed video tape of the allocution of a sex offender. What purpose did that serve? Wasnt it enough to tell us that he had plead guilty and was sentenced to whatever. Did we need to see him crying and begging forgiveness and the victom’s family in tears? What purpose does it serve?

Before you say anything – I tuned out as soon as they showed the teaser. Yuch. You dont get to count my viewership for crap like that.

Dug’s dad is doing much better, baruch Hashem. Dug will be driving him hiome to NY tomorrow and then flying back on Sunday. So I am on dog duty this weekend. Of course, its going to be aining on Saturday, so they will be muddy dogs.

And because of the rain I probably wont go to the pride parade. Its a shame because they are so much fun.

The size and diversity of the gay population around here amazes me. The clubs have a pretty standrd set of faces with some change week to week. Then go to drag bingo and you see people you have never seen before. Gay & Lesbian Film Festival and you see yet another set of faces. Gay pride and more new faces. Its kind of kewl.

None Shall Pass

Less then two weeks to Crusades… And yes, I am feeling a tad stressed. Mostly because right now it feels like a juggernaught that cannot be stopped and Im holding on for dear life. Actually, Im pretty confident as I have a great staff. There are a few things that wont be able to be handled until I am on site, but we will get it all figured out.

I have been tasked with organizing a weekend activity for my team – on October 16th… hehe – well, we are going to spend the morning at Adventure Landing and then head over to a park for a cookout. So, how many burgers, dogs, etc. do you need for 22 adults and 11 kids? Hehe… Feastocrat? No, thank you.

Went to Celtic Cattle Raids over the weekend – great event and fantastic feast. Brought a group of college students who didnt have rides. Its always invigorating watching someone with a lot of enegry and curiosity at their first event.

For some reason, I am finding it hard to concentrate today. Its the first time where the open floor plan of the new building has been a negative – too much noise and all of it getting under my skin.

Oh well – not much else really to write about.

Yeah, I Know…

Its been a long time since I posted and Ive been slack. But, its not like Ive been reading others and not posting – quite frankly, Ive not had much time for surfing lately.

Crusades is barrelling along like a train. Almost 2/3 of our break even have pre-reserved. Not quite enough for me to breath easy yet, but getting there.

The Forty Year bid has hit a snag, but thanks to Benefse and Tirloch it is moving along slowly. Still have a week to get it done and meet the deadline. We shall see.

Work has, well has sucked up much of my life – 10 to 12 hour days, weekends, etc. Lots of stress.

Kind of annoyed at myself for my eating habbits. My weight is back up and intellectually I know what I have to do, and when I get ful I do think that I need to stop – but I dont. The same with going to the gym. Its really frustratibng because I know I am less tired, feel better, am more active, etc when my weight is down – I just cant get beyond the intellectual and into the actual. Of course there was an interview with Jack LaLane last night and he admitted that he hates working out.

And then there is the house – clean laundry in one pile, dirty in another, clutter everywhere, etc. Need to get some motivation there.

On a positive note, I have received three Impact awards at work. Woo hoo! Nice to be recognized.

Had dinner with Lucia, Nia, Benefse, and Alejandro last night – that was nice. Good company and good conversation – and Amy’s wedding pictures – wow what a great dress – both of them.

I have been reading Clancy’s The Bear and The Dragon. Its an interesting view of the Preisdency. And how the American Public views the Presidency. Especially how we think the President has control over things he really does not and how we wants issues and their solutions explained in seven words or less.

Going to Celtic Cattle Raids this weekend and taking a bunch of college students who do not have rides.

Gee, my life seems boring on paper… :(
