I didn’t mention… the conference I am attending is in the back half of the convention center at the Rio. To get there from the rooms you must walk through the entire Casino, past the pool, and through the front half of the convention center. This is a long walk. To make things more interesting, the front half of the convention center is being used for a lingerie buyer’s show. I am sure the straight guys are loving it as every day we run the gauntlet of models in rather interesting outfits. Oh, and display cases of, as the sign notes, ‘Things to Use Once The Lingerie Comes Off.’
There are a lot of ‘No Photography Allowed’ signs
Last night went to several restaurants all of which had 2.5+ hour waits – wound up eating at the buffet at the hotel.
Of today’s sessions, three were excellent and one was poor – a pretty good ratio IMHO.
Not much to say about Crusades except it was the worst job I have done as an autocrat. Its over and most people had a good time & never saw the issues and thats really what counts. Thank G-d for my friends who really stepped up to the plate and made sure this came off. Thank you all. Only other thing to say is that autocratting when you have a fairly new relationship is not the best idea.
After the event I had to get on a plane at Dullas for a trip for work – Las Vegas. I was concerned about not having down time but 5 hour plane ride with nothing to do but sleep was actually an excellent way to end the weekend.
A few notes about the trip:
When I got on the plane I noticed the guys sitting next to me seemed to be speaking Hebrew. I was exhausted and slept before we took off almost the entire trip – did watch Lake House though. When we landed I heard what I knew was a Hebrew phrase so I said “What part of Israel are you from?” He looked rather shocked and cautiously replied “Tel Aviv” I smiled and said my brother lives in Efrat and he said “Now?” and I nodded. He smiled and got much friendlier. He asked how long Stu had been in Israel and I said around 20 years. Asked me if I visited and I told him about Moshe & Sruli’s Bar Mitzvah and that I was there in August. His friend smiled and said “We were there yesterday.” Was a nice conversation.
Went to the baggage claim and they had lost about half the plane’s luggage. A direct flight and you loose half a plane load of luggage? Yes, it was all the directs and not the transfers. After an hour or so they announce they had found 10 bags on a cart on the tarmac and they would be coming out shortly. Sure enough the entire second half of the plane’s luggage appeared.
Too a cab from the airport – nice driver telling me about current conventions, etc. Seemed to really love his city.
Went to check in at the Rio and asked for a room high up in one of the towers. She started to check me in and asked if it was my first time staying with them. I remarked that it was my first time in Vegas. She said ‘then a strip view must be found’ and got me a room on the 29th floor facing the strip. Quite the view – especially at night.
Well thats it for now – my first session is in about an hour or so.
